explain the internal and external linkages and flows of people, goods, services and ideas
To grow the grapes, brew the wine and distribute their goods, Taylor's Wines have provided several services, employed many under their command and have pioneered new ideas, all these factors intertwining with internal and external influences to shape what the company is today.
In 2000, the winemakers and staff of Taylor's Wines met with other Clare Valley winemakers to pioneer a bottling standard which would replace the cork. The people of Taylor's Wines and the external members involved recognised that the corks which they had been bottling their goods with had been tainting the aroma & flavour of the wine; was difficult to store and package without leakage and in around 3% of bottles, subjected the wine to slight oxidation, effectively ruining it. To prevent this destruction of their produce, these winemakers came up with an idea which could tackle the problem at its core: using a different cap. Although it was an image which was attributed to cheap wines, the idea of bottling the region's famous, quality Riesling wines with screw caps was an initiative they believed could help improve the quality of their goods. The combined effort of all these people, who were from several wineries including Taylor's itself, was able to conjure an idea which would forever change how their goods were manufactured; this idea has spread to over 90% of all the vintage of Australian wine currently produced, dispelling the stereotype that screw caps were for cheap wines alone.
As explained in nature, Taylor's Wines' industrious plot represents how it is an enterprise heavily dependent on exporting wine, whether it is domestically or internationally. Because they are reliant more on exporting rather than selling locally, it is extremely important that they are able to provide a service which can connect them to distant customers. The online shop, operated by the members of Taylor's Wines, became the method to handle this issue. This service, provided on their website, becomes an easy and efficient method for Taylor's Wines to supply their goods as wholesale on the market. Whether they are individuals, retailers or any companies, all external parties are able to easily access and purchase wine from the company. In this way, Taylor's Wines provides a service managed internally, which serves to connect their goods to any potential consumers.
